My PLN Action Plan for PLU

GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Name of Organization:  McDonnell Elementary School
2. Project Title: PLN Podcasting and Twitter
3. Project Location: Huntsville
4. Contact Person: Shelia Crutcher-Stewart
5. Contact Information: Physical Address, Postal Address, Phone Number and Email Address:
4010 Binderton Place S.W. Huntsville, Alabama 35805

6. Project Timeline:  April 2012
7. Amount Required: No cost for the project.  We just need time to collaborate and create project.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Provide a brief overview and summary of the project. It should provide a credible statement that describes your organization and establish the significance of the project

I have learned how to podcast and use Twitter in growing my Personal Learning Network.  I plan to share these tools with my second grade team and share the projects I created in this class.  I will also encourage them to collaborate to make their own podcast and post it on our Second Grade Blog.  The purpose for creating a podcast is to offer another form of communication to the students and parents.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
State the challenges identified, the rationale/need to address these challenges and the conditions to be changed by the project

Communication is a vital part of any organization. Planning and scheduling meetings with stakeholders is sometimes difficult to arrange.  New and effective means of communication can help eliminate daily or weekly meetings with just the stroke of button or access to instant messaging notifications. Using Twitter and podcasts offer a new and effective means of communication which helps to get information to the stakeholders quickly without the use of having scheduled meetings. The challenge will be setting aside time to meet with my team and get the project done.  Our schedules are so busy all the time. We meet and discuss school-related business regularly.  So, asking them to schedule an additional 15-30 minutes for me to share these tools could pose a challenge.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The objectives should describe the intended outcome of the project and should be SMART (Simple, Measurable, Accurate, Realistic and Time Bound)

Indicate how the objectives will contribute to the achievement of the project, what difference the project will make and the time frame during which this will happen.

The individual team members will create an account at Cinch.com, decide on what message they want to record, record the message, and post it to our already existing blog.  The difference in this project will be the effort we put into providing another means of communication to the students and parents within this school year.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT PLAN:
Describe the project activities indicating how the objectives will be accomplished, what will be done, who will do it, who are the implementers, partners and beneficiaries and when it will be done. Describe how the project will be sustainable after the funding period.

The team will meet to learn how to podcast. Ms. D., Ms. Y., and Ms. R. will record a message and post it to our blog. The implementers and partners is the second grade team. Hopefully, the team will like this new communication tool, create their own blog, and podcast for their class.  The beneficiaries are the second grade students, parents and possibly other colleagues in the building. There is no funding needed for this project.

PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION:
Describe how you are going to monitor and evaluate the project so as to assess progress during implementation and improve the project efficiency as the project moves along.

I will monitor and evaluate the project as to assess the progress of our efforts regularly.  When there is a concern with our podcasting or blogging, I will address it, since I’m responsible for this project.

DOCUMENTATION AND SHARING RESULTS :
Describe how you are going to document the progress of your project during and after implementation. State how you will document and share your results and let others know of your purpose, methods and achievements.

The posted comments on the blog will serve as documentation during and after implementation of the project.  I will direct my team, colleagues, and others to the blog, so they can post comments regarding our project.  Their comments will provide the documentation and sharing of the project.

PROJECT BUDGET:
Indicate the total cost of the project and also provide a detailed budget for these costs.
There is no cost for this project.

ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Provide any additional information in support of this proposal application

I’ve enjoyed developing and growing my Personal Learning Network with these new tools for communication.

Session 6: My PLN Reflection

My personal network has changed and grown with the use of new technology tools for me to continue to explore.  I've learned two new tools, the podcast and Twitter that I will share with my second grade team.  I was skeptical about podcasting, because I didn't know how to do it.  My students and I liked hearing my recorded message on the computer.  With their positive feedback on my first attempt podcasting, I'm ready to walk my team members through it, too.
I plan to thoroughly use podcasting and Twitter as I continue to develop my PLN.  In addition to my learning these tools,  I will share what I've learned with my team in hopes they will try podcasting and Twitter in their classroom.
I'm a second grade teacher, and it's easier for me to share my new tools with my team rather than the faculty.
Developing and Growing My Personal Learning Network has been inviting and positive for me.  One statement I'm going to carry with me is from the video, "A Brave New World Wide Web" is to "Be Brave."

My Reflection to Prompts

I enjoyed reading the blogs. Professionalism to any public tool must be considered and utlilized at all times.  People will be people and their opinions will be their opinions. When negative or positive school news is posted, printed, or reported, people will receive that information, sort through it, desiminate it, and disgard the rest.

I liked reading the personal reflections and author focused blogs. They sometime provide entertaining and pertinent information.  Depending on my purpose for reading, will determine my blog selection.

My thoughts on the type of blog I want to maintain, is to just be sure that it is effective and relevant to the audience inteneded.

The blog would meet my administrative needs in a "two-way" concept.  It would help me get out needed information to the masses quickly and allow me to get feedback from stakeholders.  This tool would eliminate numerous meetings.
